The Herd Sires

Photo: Cornerview Charolais. We've had a few fellas over the years that had a marked influence on our herd. They passed on the traits we were looking for at the time and can still be found in the pedigrees of our cowherd. HTA Maxium 425D (a Tundra son) comes to mind from the distant past. We came back on the larger frame females of earlier days with B&M Benji's Lad. He was the right bull for the time — a moderate frame with strong maternal and milk numbers, thickness, sound feet and legs, and great temperament to boot. He has sired some of our best females. In addition to our herd, his offspring can be found in other Ontario herds as well as in Quebec. Incredibly, Benji is still going strong at 10 years of age. Due to injury of our senior herdsire this spring (PCC Patriot — Bond son), Benji was back working for us in 2007!

We've also used a few A.I. bulls that we thought had something to add — like Rio Blanco, a great performance bull. The latest addition to the herdsire list is Sparrows Coach, an Alcatraz son. We are really impressed with his first calf crop off our two-year-old cows. He's throwing lots of meat, middle, hair and great temperments. A son, Cornerview Umpire 6U, was slapped Grand Champion Bull at the 2008 Royal Winter Fair!
